ANSWER: Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Once youre exposed to the virus, which is typically passed from skin-to-skin contact, its present in your body for life. After the initial infection, the virus will travel to your nerves, where it remains dormant but may awaken periodically. Often, theres a trigger that causes the virus to wake up, which leads to the development of cold sores. Theres no cure, but antiviral medications can help cold sores heal more quickly and may reduce how often they return.
A cold sore is a small, fluid-filled blister or more often, a group of blisters that typically develops on or around the lips. These blisters quickly dry out and form a scab. A day or two before an outbreak occurs, you may experience a burning, itching or tingling sensation on the area of skin where the sore eventually will appear.
Common triggers that can lead to cold sores include stress illness, such as a cold or influenza exposure to sunlight, wind or other elements a cut or injury to the skin changes in the immune system and hormonal changes.

Scabies Rash Can Occur On The Genitals
Scabies is caused by tiny eight-legged bugs that burrow into the skin to live, feed, and lay their eggs, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association . There are millions of cases of scabies worldwide each year.

A herpes simplex virus infection lasts for life. No vaccination can prevent it, and no treatment can fully eradicate it.
The problem for doctors is that, most of the time, herpes lies dormant in nerve cells and becomes treatable only during unpredictable periods of activity.
Now, researchers many from Cornell Universitys Baker Institute for Animal Health, in Ithaca, NY may have discovered what allows the genes in HSV to sometimes turn on.
The researchers have found that herpes viral DNA sometimes escapes suppressive protein wrappings in nerve cells and becomes reactivated.
Luis M. Schang, Ph.D., the senior author of the summary of these findings, explains that herpes on-again-off-again nature is why antivirals cannot cure the infection and why, so far, its been impossible to develop a vaccine. He points out that Latency and reactivation are a major focus for herpes virus research.

Who gets HSV-1, commonly known as oral herpes?
Anyone can get HSV-1. Most people contract HSV-1 during childhood. It spreads when an adult who has the virus has close contact with a child, such as when a family member kisses a child.
Who gets HSV-2, commonly known as genital herpes?
Genital herpes affects sexually active teens and adults of all genders and races. It can spread if you have multiple sexual partners and dont use condoms or dental dams.
People assigned female at birth are more at risk. Delicate vaginal tissue can tear, making it easier for the infection to get in. Black people who were AFAB are especially vulnerable, with an estimated 1 in 2 people AFAB between the ages of 14 and 49 infected with HSV-2.

Recurrent herpes simplex labialis, also known as oral herpes, is a condition of the mouth area caused by the herpes simplex virus. Its a common and contagious condition that spreads easily.
