HSV nucleic acid amplification tests are the most sensitive and highly specific tests available for diagnosing herpes. However, in some settings viral culture is the only test available. If confirmatory tests are unavailable, patients should be counseled about the limitations of available testing before serologic testing. Healthcare providers should also be aware that false-positive results occur. In instances of suspected recent acquisition, serologic testing within 12 weeks after acquisition may be associated with false negative test results. 11

Why Does Genital Herpes Come Back
There are many different things that may trigger herpes recurrences. Sometimes, a person can learn to recognise why outbreaks appear but for other people there does not seem to be any particular reason for it.
Between recurrences the virus travels from the skin along the nerve to the nerve ganglion where it remains. Once you have been infected, the virus remains in the body, just as chickenpox and some other viruses do. Recurrent symptoms occur when the virus is reactivated or triggered. The symptoms normally appear in the same area as the first time. For some people they may move a short distance, e.g. from genitals to buttocks, but always within the same dermatome .

Endless Genital Herpes Outbreaks I Can’t Cope

I was diagosed 13 years ago with Genital Herpes as the result of a very foolish short lived relationship.
The first attack was, as everyone says, the absolute worst . Since then I have had good years and bad years, sometimes many months with no attack. However over the last year I feel I have had back to back attacks. I am in misery, I have a couple of other health problems one of which is constant UTI’s and of course they are made worse by the herpes .
I am not suicidal, I have been there and felt that and definitely do not feel that way – but I just don’t want to live. If that makes any sense. I wouldn’t do anything to bring about my death but if I knew I was going to die I would think “well at least all this pain and suffering will be over”.
I know that plenty of people live with much worse conditions but this does seem to be a pretty bad thing to have.
