If youre feeling especially ill, either because of herpes symptoms or another illness, its best to wait.
The Australian Red Cross guidelines say not to donate blood during an active herpes outbreak. Their website advises to wait until any sores are gone. The area of infection must be clean and dry.
The site also says if youve come into sexual contact with someone who has active genital herpes, to wait two weeks before donating blood.

It Turns Out Herpes Could Cause Infertility
A rare strain may be to blame.
Infertility can be difficult to grapple with, even for the strongest of couples. And when doctors cant explain why youve had no luck getting knocked up? Well, thats even more frustrating.
Now, a new, small study, published in the journal PLOS One, shows that theres a strong link between a specific strain of herpes and unexplained infertility.
Researchers discovered that the herpes strain HHV-6A infected the uterine lining in 43 percent of the 30 women in the study with unexplained infertility. However, it was not found in the uterus lining of the 36 women in the study who had no issues conceiving.
While HHV-6A is different than the strains that cause cold sores and genital herpes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that its still somewhat common. Doctors can determine if you have an HHV-6A infection by doing a biopsy of your uterine lining, a procedure that can be done in-office without anesthesia.

We generally will only consider women between the ages of 18 and 29 to donate eggs. This is because a womans egg reserve diminishes as she ages. While many women believe they are fertile right until menopause, it actually becomes more challenging to get pregnant with each passing year. This is not only because women lose eggs as they get older, but also because the quality of the remaining eggs declines over time. Limiting egg donation to women under the age of 30 gives us a better chance of retrieving eggs that are viable.

What To Know About Donating Eggs
Informing donors that donating their gametes does not give them any legal right or duty to rear the donor-conceived children is a key step at the very beginning of the process.
Likewise, IVF programs should strongly encourage donors, as well as recipients, that they have to provide medical updates at any point of the process if they learn about serious genetic or other conditions that may compromise the offsprings health.

Scabies is caused by tiny eight-legged mites that burrow into the skin to live, feed, and lay their eggs. There are millions of cases of scabies worldwide each year.
Herpes may be confused with scabies because both conditions can cause a skin rash of small, itchy bumps and blisters that spread through person-to-person contact. What Is Suppressive Therapy
Suppressive therapy involves taking an oral antiviral drug every day for prolonged periods. It interferes with the herpes virus reproductive cycle and so prevents or dramatically reduces the number of recurrences. When recurrences do occur, they are usually less severe and shorter lasting.
If you find the frequency of your outbreaks unacceptable, or if you are finding it difficult to cope emotionally with having recurrences of genital herpes, tell your doctor and discuss the use of suppressive therapy.

You Got A Tattoo Or Piercing
These giving blood restrictions pop up on a lot of lists as being some of the more surprising reasons you might not be able to give blood. The concern behind tattoos, piercings, and even intravenous drug use, is that the instruments and needles used in these practices may spread hepatitis.
For tattoos, you wont be asked to defer your blood donation so long as you live in a state that regulates its tattoo facilities. If you dont live in a state that regulates these facilities then you should wait 3 months before donating blood.
For piercings, you wont be asked to defer your blood donation so long as the piercing was conducted using single-use equipment. If the piercing was made using reusable equipment then you will be asked to wait 3 months before donating.
How Long Does An Egg Donation Process Take
Egg donation is a process that requires time commitment. You will need to meet with us for an initial screening and consultation, then commit to 3 or 4 visits per week for approximately 2 weeks while you receive fertility injections. On the day of your egg retrieval, you will also need to take the day off from school or work. While the process is rewarding and so worthwhile, the number of appointments you will be required to attend might feel like having a second job for a short while.
