Effects Of Lysine Deficiency

A lysine deficiency is considered fairly rare, even in vegetarians and people on restricted diets. However, âThe New Encyclopedia of Vitamins, Minerals, Supplements, and Herbs,â by Nicola Reavley, reports symptoms of lysine deficiency include kidney stone formation, dizziness, reduced appetite, fatigue and anemia. Severe deficiency can lead to hormone imbalance and affect metabolism, sexual reproduction and growth. People at risk of lysine deficiency are those who do not eat fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products or meat, but rather consume heavily processed foods, sugary foods and soda pop.

Adverse Effects And Interactions

In the last 10 years, the FDA has become concerned over the safety of AA supplements in the wake of 24 reported deaths in 1988 from eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome linked to a contaminated batch of L-tryptophan.18 In 1992, the Life Sciences Research Office did not reach a conclusion on the safety of lysine, but stated that its use for HSV suppression was not associated with adverse effects.3

Multiple animal studies suggest that large doses of oral LMH have no adverse clinical, hematologic, or pathologic side effects.3 Some studies done in rat pups have shown that lysine-rich and arginine-poor diets cause growth retardation.3 Intravenous lysine has been associated with renal toxicity and death in rats at doses greater than 4 g/kg of body weight.3

Human studies of LMH have not reported any significant toxicity. At the highest doses of 3,000 mg/d, only a few cases of dyspepsia were noted.10 However, there is one report of tubulointerstitial nephritis which could have been caused by long-term use of 3 g LMH daily.19

There are no reported adverse interactions with LMH. Animal data suggest that LMH is safe in pregnancy and lactation.3 However, there are no human safety data on LMH in pregnancy or lactation.

I want to note that the white ulcer was noticable 2 days ago, the morning after sex. The other spots and the white patch in my vaginal opening was noticed the day after I had sex. I was also treated for a yeast infection 2 months ago that could possibly be BV.

  • Posted 2 years ago

I think it looks like herpes but it’s always hard to say. Your partner could be asymptomatic.

Have the legions swabbed by your doctor as soon as possible.

    You will get through this.

  • Edited 2 years ago

update: the ulcers appear smaller this morning. the white stuff near the vaginal opening isnt as noticeable. i think it couldve mostly been discharge. over the past few weeks ive been experiencing a really watery yellow discharge. it had a fishy smell for about 3 days until i used some boric acid suppositories. im not sure if that helped or maybe these ulcers are from a boric acid/ tea tree oil burn?

  • Posted 2 years ago

theyre really odd. I took this picture yesterday when those bumps appeared . this morning i woke up and checked again. the bumps are gone and the ulcer is healing/much smaller and its only been 2 days. the sores near my vaginal opening seem to be getting better as well. i find it odd because most cases of herpes blisters take a few weeks to heal? and to my knowledge they will pop/bleed before healing up. any input on that?

    Boric Acid For Trichomoniasis

There is some evidence that boric acid suppositories can be used to treat trichmoniasis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. However, there isn’t a lot of research and studies tend to be small.

That said, laboratory-based studies have shown that boric acid can effectively inhibit the growth of trichomonas. This supports the idea that boric acid may be an appropriate treatment option for this condition.

Trichomonas has difficulty growing in acidic environments in lab settings, and infections have been shown to occur more frequently in people who have a higher than healthy vaginal pH. If your infection has been difficult to treat, it may be worth discussing boric acid suppositories with your healthcare provider.

Just be aware that sexual partners need to be treated for trichomoniasis as well, and you should practice safe sex until treatment has been successful. Otherwise, there is a risk that you could pass an infection back and forth.

    Benefits Of Boric Acid Suppositories

Boric acid may help improve vaginal health and has been shown to have anti-microbial and anti-fungal activity.

Research suggests that when used appropriately, boric acid suppositories can help reduce the risk of recurrent infections. At times, boric acid suppositories work more effectively than traditional medications, like some antifungals, which are used for treating yeast infections.

Boric acid may be recommended in some cases for:

    • Yeast infections
    • Bacterial vaginosis

It often has distinguished symptoms, making it easy to diagnose and identify. You may have the condition if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

    • Itchiness in the affected areas
    • Pain or soreness
    • Unusual discharge
    • Watery discharge

Treatment for the condition often consists of over-the-counter or prescription medicine. However, minor cases can also go away on their own over time. OTC treatments are often topical and come in a cream-based consistency to be spread over the affected areas. Your attending sexual health worker can only prescribe oral medicine.

Many individuals also use home remedies like hydrogen peroxide and boric acid. However, seeking medical advice before trying certain treatments is still recommended.

    When To Consult A Doctor

When the situation for both infections seems unusual, its time to consider reaching out to a medical professional.

Candidiasis should only last up to two weeks with treatment. However, if it does not disappear within that time frame, you should seek help from your doctor. Recurring yeast infections are also unusual and may cause an underlying disease or complication.

Regarding genital herpes, you should schedule a visit to your doctor soon as you identify the symptoms. Genital herpes does not have a cure, so symptoms will persist until the patient is given the appropriate suppressive or intermittent treatment.

Unfortunately, this medication is only available through prescription. Therefore, patients should see their doctor as soon as possible to prevent it from spreading to other individuals.

Differences Between Yeast Infection And Herpes

The key difference between candidiasis and herpes are as follows:

Origins or cause Candidiasis is caused by a hormonal imbalance in the womans body, usually caused by pregnancy or birth control medication. The overgrowth of yeast within the vaginal area causes candidiasis to appear and spread. On the other hand, genital herpes is only transmitted through sexual activity or direct contact with other infected individuals. Unlike herpes, candidiasis is often contagious.

Symptoms Candidiasis is characterized mostly by the itching, soreness, and cream cheese substance found in the vaginal area. Conversely, herpes does not have this symptom and is distinguished by painful blisters that eventually break open. Although they both cause soreness within the affected areas, their main symptoms are very different. In addition, patients with Candidiasis often do not have flu-like symptoms unless complications arise, which is quite common for herpes patients.

    Osteoporosis And Physical Performance

Osteoporosis causes bone degeneration in the aging population which puts them more at risk of sustaining a life-altering fracture. Post-menopausal women are a significant risk of developing the bone density problem. L-lysine plays a vital role in the bodys ability to absorb calcium which reduces the risk and damage from osteoporosis.

A diet rich in calcium increases an athletes performance ability. It is not uncommon for athletes to take protein powders that are high in L-lysine to improve their bodys ability to utilize the calcium they are consuming.

    Boric Acid And Reproductive Health

Studies in animals have found that when taken orally, boric acid can affect fertility in male animals and affect a developing fetus in female animals. However, studies in humans havent returned the same results.

A 2020 research review examined the animal studies discussed above and compared them with studies in humans who are regularly exposed to high levels of boron, the key element in boric acid, in the environment.

    Overall, researchers found that:

    • So far, studies of human exposure to high levels of boron havent produced the same reproductive effects that have been observed in animals.
    • Even the highest levels of environmental boron exposure were too low to reach blood and tissue levels that would have harmful effects on human reproduction.

Im Pregnant How Could Genital Herpes Affect My Baby

If you are pregnant and have genital herpes, prenatal care visits are very important. Some research suggest that a genital herpes infection may lead to miscarriage or make it more likely to deliver your baby too early. You can pass herpes to your unborn child before birth, but it more commonly passes during delivery. This can lead to a deadly infection in your baby . It is important that you avoid getting genital herpes during pregnancy. Tell your healthcare provider if you have ever had a genital herpes diagnosis or symptoms. Also tell them about any possible exposure to genital herpes.

If you have genital herpes, you may need to take anti-herpes medicine towards the end of your pregnancy. This medicine may reduce your risk of having signs or symptoms of genital herpes when you deliver. At the time of delivery, your healthcare provider should carefully examine you for herpes sores. If you have signs or symptoms of genital herpes at delivery, a C-section is likely to occur.

    How To Treat Genital Herpes

There is no cure for genital herpes. It lays dormant in the body for long periods, then reappears as an outbreak of sores.

However, doctors can prescribe medications that reduce the likelihood of recurring outbreaks. These medicines may also lower the risk of transmitting the virus.

When a person has a genital herpes outbreak, they may be able to promote healing and lower the risk of transmitting the virus by:

    • avoiding sexual contact with another person until the sores have healed
    • keeping the sores clean and dry
    • refraining from touching the sores whenever possible
    • washing the hands immediately after touching the sores
    • using barrier protection during sexual contact until told otherwise by a doctor

The first herpes outbreak is usually the worst subsequent outbreaks tend to become less bothersome.

Genital herpes does not typically cause serious health complications. However, it can make a person more vulnerable to contracting HIV.

If a person has genital herpes sores, viruses and bacteria, including HIV, have more opportunity to enter the body. Avoid scratching the sores, as this can lead to bacterial infection.

Also, having HIV can make genital herpes outbreaks more severe.

    Is Boric Acid Toxic

    Boric Acid Suppositories

When consumed by mouth, boric acid is toxic and can potentially lead to death. Deaths due to accidental boric acid ingestion have been reported in both children .

A 2011 statement from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that ingesting about 30 grams of boric acid in a short period of time is toxic to humans and can eventually result in death.

This is much more than the amount of boric acid thats in a boric acid suppository, which is typically 600 milligrams.

Because suppositories may appear similar to a pill that you take orally, there is the risk that they could be accidentally swallowed.

Swallowing a boric acid suppository is dangerous, but using one as labeled for vaginal application is generally safe.

Side effects of using boric acid vaginal suppositories as directed tend to be mild. They can include things like vaginal irritation or discharge.
