  • Is There A Cure For Herpes Simplex

There is no cure for herpes simplex. Once you have the virus, its a lifelong infection.

What is the outlook for people with herpes simplex?

For many people, the first herpes outbreak is the most severe. Many outbreaks are less frequent and milder after the first year of infection. Some people may have only one outbreak and never have another again.

Herpes infection doesnt usually pose a serious health risk. The risk of a health complication due to herpes is higher in infants and if you have HIV/AIDS, cancer or an organ transplant.

    Treatment For Oral Herpes

The antiviral medications available in pill form have been specifically developed for the treatment of genital herpes. However, it is not uncommon for healthcare providers to prescribe the antiviral drugs to those who have frequent or severe outbreaks of oral herpes.

A recent study found valacyclovir to be effective for treating oral herpes in a one-day treatment of 2 grams taken at the first sign of a cold sore, and then again about 12 hours later.

There are two topical antiviral medications prescribed for the treatment of oral HSV symptoms: acyclovir ointment and penciclovir cream. Both work to speed up the healing process and reduce the viral activity. These topical drugs are put directly on the lesions themselves, but can also be used at the onset of prodrome.

Other topical treatments for oral herpes are available over-the-counter , but are not antiviral compounds like acyclovir and penciclovir. Some also contain ingredients that numb the area and induce temporary relief from the discomfort of an outbreak. Unfortunately, some OTC treatments may actually delay the healing time of symptoms because they can further irritate the area with repeated applications. There is only one OTC FDA-approved cream, called Abreva®, which has been clinically proven to help speed the healing process.

How Can I Prevent Herpes Outbreaks

If you have lots of herpes outbreaks, your doctor may tell you to take medicine every day this is called suppressive therapy. It can help prevent future herpes outbreaks, and lower your chances of giving herpes to your partners.

Whether or not you take medicine to treat herpes, taking care of yourself by eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, and avoiding stress might help keep future outbreaks from popping up.

No one knows for sure what triggers genital herpes outbreaks. Other infections, surgery, sex, your period, skin irritations, and stress may cause outbreaks. Sunburns, injuries to your lips, or other infections can cause oral herpes flare-ups. Try to avoid getting sunburned if you have oral herpes.

Genital herpes outbreaks usually happen less often and become shorter and weaker after a few years whether or not you get treated.

    Home Remedies For Herpes

There is currently no cure or vaccine for either HSV-1 or HSV-2.

Prescription medications have been proven safe and effective in reducing pain and partially suppressing the herpes virus during active outbreaks.

But many natural treatments and home remedies can complement these treatments and help to soothe outbreak symptoms in their own right.

In recent years, scientists have expanded their research into the antiviral properties of certain natural remedies.

If proven effective in the future, these remedies could be especially important in battling infections that have become resistant to prescription antivirals.

    Additional Dietary Tips For Herpes

    1. Eat Foods Good for Skin

    • Wholegrain cereals

    2. Eat Plenty of Cruciferous Vegetables

There are plenty of foods to avoid with herpes but cruciferous vegetables are not one of them. High in indole-3-carbinol , foods with this compound may hinder the virus by interfering with its reproduction. Studies are showing significant evidence supporting this finding. Foods include:

    3. Eat Stress-Relieving Foods

Research has found that stress weakens the bodys immune system, making it more susceptible to illness. It is important to de-stress and relax whenever possible. Certain foods and nutrients can help your body fight tension and anxiety, thus warding off a herpes outbreak. Foods and drinks high in vitamin B and magnesium can help your body bounce back from stressful situations quicker. If you decide to take a supplement, make sure it is in the form of a vitamin B complex so you keep the nutrients in balance. The complex includes B1, B2, B6, B9 and B12. They help your body produce serotonin, which is the hormone that relaxes you and puts you at ease. Foods that can help you de-stress include:

    • Green leafy vegetables

    4. Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods

    5. Drink Purified and Alkaline Water

    Tip #9 Indulge In Antioxidant

There are lots of foods that nature has given us that possess the potential to ward off diseases and infections including herpes, and some of the most powerful of these are called antioxidants.

An antioxidant is something that helps to neutralize and stop the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by many things, including chemicals and toxins in our food and environment, and they are responsible for aging, tissue damage and deterioration of the body.

    Herpes Causes And Risk Factors

Why Harry Stopped Posting on YouTube!! (Ep.148)

Causes of herpes include acquiring the virus through sexual contact, coupled with immune system suppression and sometimes nutritional deficiencies.

HSV-1 is primarily transmitted by oral-oral contact. On the other hand, HSV-2 is considered a sexually transmitted disease and usually passed during oral or vaginal sex.

A scary finding is that more cases of genital herpes than ever before are now being caused by HSV-1 , and about 85 percent of people with genital herpes dont even know it. Studies show that about 50 percent of the new genital herpes infections in young adults are due to HSV-1 and about 40 percent in older adults. The fact that most people dont ever find out theyre infected is one of the reasons that transmission rates are steadily climbing.

Risk factors for acquiring herpes include:

    • Kissing someone who has symptoms of an active herpes virus
    • Engaging in any form of unprotected sex
    • Having sex with multiple partners
    • Spreading the virus through contact with cold sores on the eyes, secretions on the fingers, or ulcers/sores on buttocks and upper thighs
    • Having certain other illnesses that lower immune function, such as HIV/AIDS, an autoimmune disorder or hepatitis
    • Eating a poor diet that causes nutrient deficiencies and lowered immunity
    • Smoking cigarettes, drinking high amounts of alcohol or abusing drugs

    Adopting An Alkaline Diet

    • Watermelon: this is the easiest method because they are easy to eat with great taste and can improve the effectiveness of your alkaline diet. Fruits and vegetables in general are perfect for an alkaline diet.

    • Adding lemon to your water: a quick method to enhance your alkaline balance. Stay away from soda, or caffeinated drinks because they increase your arginine amount which will lead to outbreaks.

    Genital Herpes And Pregnancy

Its really important to speak to a healthcare worker if you have herpes during pregnancy, especially if itâs your first outbreak. Thereâs a risk that your baby can develop neonatal herpes which can be very dangerous or even fatal for the baby. If you have herpes, your healthcare provider will be able to prescribe antiviral treatment to keep your baby safe and help you have a healthy pregnancy.

Speak to a healthcare worker for more information or if you have any concerns.

As I write and speak about in this post and Podcast on Herpes or Shingles, the ratio of the amino acids Arginine to Lysine is the key. Arginine feeds all Herpes viruses . Arginine is balanced by Lysine. Reducing high Arginine foods, handling your stress, and taking a small dose of Lysine daily can be a big help. I also take a few Monolaurin every week as a preventative. My Olive Leaf is whole leaf I take it daily.

What is the meaning of the Parable of the Good Samaritan?
    bordersgirl

I was diagosed 13 years ago with Genital Herpes as the result of a very foolish short lived relationship.

The first attack was, as everyone says, the absolute worst . Since then I have had good years and bad years, sometimes many months with no attack. However over the last year I feel I have had back to back attacks. I am in misery, I have a couple of other health problems one of which is constant UTIâs and of course they are made worse by the herpes .

I am not suicidal, I have been there and felt that and definitely do not feel that way â but I just donât want to live. If that makes any sense. I wouldnât do anything to bring about my death but if I knew I was going to die I would think âwell at least all this pain and suffering will be overâ.

I know that plenty of people live with much worse conditions but this does seem to be a pretty bad thing to have.

What Can I Do If I Have Herpes Simplex 2

Many people who find out they have herpes feel depressed knowing theyll always have the virus and can give it to others. But you arent alone. Herpes is one of the most common STIs, both in the U.S. and worldwide. If you have herpes, you should:

    • Learn all you can about it. Information will help you to manage your disease and feel better about yourself.
    • Talk about your illness with your doctor.

If you have herpes, you can still:

    • Have sex if you use a condom or dental dam , and you tell your partner about your illness. Some couples, who have sexual relations only with each other, may choose not to use condoms even though one partner has herpes. Because each situation is different, you should ask your doctor if this is the right choice for you in your relationship.
    • Have children. People with herpes can still give birth to healthy babies. If you have herpes and plan to have children, discuss your illness with your healthcare provider.

If you have herpes, you should also get checked for HIV and other STIs .

Foods To Avoid And Eat With Herpes

Once infected with herpes, you have the virus for the rest of your life. There are two types of the virus one that triggers cold sores and the other that cause blisters on your genitals. Your doctor may prescribe medicine designed to manage the virus, but your diet also plays an important role in preventing herpes outbreaks.

    Herpes And Processed Foods

The list of foods to avoid by herpes sufferers is not complete without processed foods which include canned meats, precooked foods, snacks and bottled beverages.

These foods, in addition to having a low nutritional level, contain artificial ingredients that can be harmful to health and therefore should not be included in the diet for herpes sufferers.

One of these artificial ingredients is sulfite which is added as a preservative. The U.S. FDA declared that safe sulfiting agents are sodium sulfite, sodium and potassium metabisulfite, sodium and potassium bisulfite and sulfur dioxide.

Sulfites can cause adverse reactions, sometimes serious, in asthmatic persons and also in persons without allergic history. The most common symptoms are hives, diarrhea, nauseas, tightness in the chest, flushing and weakness.

The diet for herpes sufferers should be based primarily on foods free of artificial components.

What REALLY Happened in Vegas?? (Ep147)

With oral herpes outbreaks, avoid irritating the inflamed area any further. Eat bland, healthy foods while avoiding salty, sour, acidic and spicy foods.

Switch to a softer toothbrush to avoid irritating your lips and gums. For genital herpes outbreaks, air drying speeds healing.

Try to wear loose fitting clothes and breathable cotton underwear. Wash sores gently and dry them, but do not bandage them tightly afterward.

Never pick at or open up herpes sores, as this can worsen the infection and and even spread the infection to other parts of your body.

What Prescription Drugs Treat Cold Sores

Prescription-strength topical medications: Treatment with topical acyclovir or penciclovir will reduce healing time by approximately half a day and decrease pain associated with the lesion. Topical treatment is limited in its effectiveness because it has poor penetration to the site of replication of the virus and therefore is restricted in its healing ability. Acyclovir cream should be applied five times per day for 4 days, and penciclovir cream should be applied every two hours while awake for 4 days. A cream containing 5% acyclovir and a topical steroid called Xerese is also available.

Treatment for the first outbreak of oral herpes in an otherwise healthy person may include:

    • Acyclovir, 400 mg orally three times a day for 10 days or until the lesions have crusted
    • Valacyclovir, 2,000 mg orally every 12 hours for 1 day
    • Famciclovir, 250 mg orally three times a day for 7-10 days
    • Treatment doses for recurrent oral herpes are as follows:
    • Acyclovir, 400 mg orally three times a day for 5 days: It may also be given as 800 mg orally twice a day for 5 days or 800 mg three times a day for 2 days.
    • Valacyclovir, 2,000 mg orally every 12 hours for 1 day
    • Famciclovir, 1,500 mg orally once
    • Suppressive treatment for those with frequent outbreaks may be given for 12 months, but it may be extended if needed:
    • Acyclovir, 400 mg orally twice a day
    • Valacyclovir, 500 mg orally once a day
    • Famciclovir, 250 mg orally twice a day
